Solar Sister eradicates energy poverty by empowering women with economic opportunity. By combining the breakthrough potential of clean energy technology with a deliberately woman-centered direct sales network, they are able to bring light, hope and opportunity to even the most remote communities in rural Africa.

Holliday Ink worked collaboratively with Solar Sister to design a visual and interactive web experience with strong, vibrant multimedia that was both user-friendly and responsive. The result was an interactive storytelling journey that allowed visitors to immerse themselves in the lives of Solar Sister entrepreneurs, which boosting their average time spent on the site and overall knowledge of the organization’s mission.

Empowerment Journeys

Our mission was to create a vibrant multimedia timeline, showcasing the journey and impact of two individual women entrepreneurs in rural Africa. We created an interface that simply and visually guides users through the lives of these women over the course of 5 years through photography, video, information graphics and storytelling. We kept the UI simple in order to retain usability and understanding. As the viewer scrolls through the paginated timeline, they can simultaneously immerse themselves in compelling and relevant photography while reading about the impact of these incredible women.

#WESHINE

The WESHINE page is a central hub on the Solar Sister website where users can discover, explore and learn more about the women who champion clean energy in Nigeria and Tanzania. Viewers have the opportunity to dive deeper into the lives of these women entrepreneurs and learn about the unexpected ways they are transforming lives. Upon clicking a thumbnail, viewers enter a gallery of images and videos showcasing the individual stories of these women, their familial and professional identities, as well as their motivation to become a Solar Sister.
